Achieving good grades is a challenge for students as it is, but trying to do so while playing sports poses a greater challenge for athletes.
Extra-curricular activities occur regularly after school but athletes still need to study after strenuous workouts or games.
Cross country runner Maile Romano said, “During sport season, I get better grades because I’m active and force myself to get work done after practice.”
Many athletes strive to achieve athletic as well as academic success despite the lack of time.
Paddler Greer Smith said, “It is important to me to find a good balance between school and sports, and I’ve grown used to managing my time and prioritizing the tasks I need to accomplish.”
Successful student-athletes create their own strategies for disciplining themselves.
Tennis player Gabrielle Del Rosario said, “I shut myself off from social media, ignoring Instagram, Facebook and Twitter until I complete all my work. Doing this ensures that I won’t get distracted while doing homework.”
Other tips for balancing school and sports:
