The high school library is revamping to keep up with technology uses and students, teachers and faculty members have been asked for ideas for the renovation.
At the end of last school year, when Sacred Hearts Academy received a “Schools of the Future” grant, the school decided to use the money to modernize the library.
Over the summer, librarian Kellie Fase and Dean of Faculty, Mary Girard, began weeding out newspapers and magazines and sorting through books and outdated equipment. Major upgrades began at the end of July.
The walls in the library and study hall annex were repainted and the carpet was relaid.
Books previously in the study hall annex were moved and are now displayed in the main part of the library. Instead of magazines, past yearbooks are now on display. Items displayed on the shelf will change every month.
Senior Tiffany Atud said, “I think the most effective change that the library has made was moving all the books into the main library. It makes it easier to find the books I am looking for.”
Two new 55” flat screen televisions have also been installed.
Senior Elizabeth Serrao said, “The new televisions in the library are especially convenient for me because I have homeroom in the study hall annex. With the new televisions, I am still able to watch the morning news and the videos.”
More modifications to the library are being planned to provide students with a quiet, modern place to work.
