Courage House Hawaii is hosting a gala to raise funds for the prospective shelter on the North Shore of Oahu on Sept. 8.
Courage House assists victims of sex trafficking. The foundation provides a safe home for these women to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually.
The Academy sponsored an assembly in April where two representatives, Jessica Munoz and Kaleo Schneider, spoke about the issue of human trafficking to students, and the statistics of the trade and exploitation of women.
Junior Nadia Busekrus helped organize the visit and is responsible for promoting the upcoming gala.
“Ever since my involvement with Courage House last year I’ve stayed in contact with the association. I was initially drawn to the issue they address and wish to continue making a difference as a student,” she said.
Courage House Hawaii raises awareness of the growing problem, calling students like Busekrus to join the effort.
The gala is being held at Sunset Ranch from 4 p.m.-10 p.m., with the theme of “A Midsummer Night’s Hope.” Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online at http://courageworldwide.org/hawaii/events/.
