The new school year is underway with the theme of “Soaring to New Heights,” initiated by the new student council. The idea aims at inspiring students to set personal goals and achieve them through effort and motivation.
Student body president Angela Wong said, “We want everyone to recognize the theme throughout the year, beginning to end, constantly accomplishing their own goals.”
Many changes are taking place involving the school’s public relations and recognition in the social media sector, according to council historian Kasandra Kitagawa.
“A previous student council position was replaced to expand the publicity of the school. Fundraisers will also incorporate social media, hopefully reaching sites like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter,” she said.
The council also wants to promote pride in the school mascot, the Lancer.
Vice-president Caroline Kikkawa said, “Interactions will be increased between Lancer community service clubs. In addition, students will be encouraged to participate and support Lancer sporting events.”
With these adjustments, the student council hopes to improve student performance and increase school involvement.
Wong said, “This year we want everything to be bigger and better, everyone pushing their limitations and setting high goals. If that can be done, we’re in for an incredible experience.”
