Indie rock band Vampire Weekend returns after a three-year hiatus with the reflective album “Modern Vampires of the City.” Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij, Chris Tomson and Chris Baio formed the band while studying at New York City’s Columbia University in 2006.
“Modern Vampires of the City” differs from the band’s last album, “Contra,” an upbeat album that included summery melodies and lyrics. This album is much more reserved, with the slow-paced album opener “Obvious Bicycle,” as well as other slow-paced songs “Step” and “Hudson,” and the calming ballad “Everlasting Arms.” The band does not completely get rid of its signature upbeat sound, however, with upbeat tracks including the single “Diane Young,” and “Unbelievers.”
Fans and new listeners of Vampire Weekend will see “Modern Vampires of the City” as a pleasant addition to the band’s discography. They will enjoy the upbeat and slow-paced tracks, and the album will be a great addition for their summertime playlists.
The album will be available on iTunes, Amazon, as well as vinyl and CD copy on May 14. The album is streaming on the iTunes store, where listeners can preview the album before its official release.
