With the growing numbers of teen drivers, teens are more involved in behavior that results in unfortunate, and sometimes deadly, consequences.
Adolescents are often driven by adrenaline, making dangerous decisions that put them and others at risk.
“Car surfing” is a current fad in which passengers climb on the hood, trunk or roof of the car while it is in motion. If riders fall off the vehicle, many serious injuries can occur.
Such behavior is irresponsible and immature. The responsibility to operate vehicles on the road must not be abused.
In a recent case, a teenager who was supposedly participating in car surfing died from head injuries.
Another accident also proved fatal for a 16-year-old skateboarder who was holding onto the back of his friend’s moped while it was in motion. The teen suffered a severe brain injury as the result of a fall and died afterwards.
Often, teenagers do not identify hazards or dangerous situations which lead to reckless action. They also overestimate their abilities and the amount of control they can maintain over a situation.
Teens need to be cautious while both handling vehicles and as passengers. Though at the moment it may seem fun, it is not worth the risks. By making smart decisions, grave injuries or death can be avoided and fewer accidents will occur.
