On Apr. 10 Sacred Hearts Academy will have a Dress Down Day supporting Courage House and SEGA Girls School in coordination with the Japanese Cultural Center. A portion of the proceeds will go to Courage House Hawaii, an organization which addresses and spreads awareness about trafficking and provides safe houses for victims of trafficking in Hawaii.
SEGA School in Tanzania provides students with skills that will help them be independent and avoid becoming victims of trafficking. A portion of the proceeds will go to SEGA School to assist the organization in reaching the goal of educating 210 girls annually. For every $1.00 Sacred Hearts Academy contributes, USAID will contribute $4.00.
According to U.S. History teacher, Wendi Vincent, “ The initiative is currently entitled ‘Empowering Girls for a Brighter Future.’ The work being done is for a project sponsored by the Japanese Cultural Center called, ‘Inspired by Youth: Hawaii’s Youth Take Action.’”
The Academy’s Junior Division is also taking a lead role.
Students have been working on promotional materials to help make high school students aware of some of the shocking statistics of human trafficking. To that end, students have generated a public service announcement, a brochure and educational flyers.
“We have also created a circle activity for Apr. 10 as a follow-up to Tuesday’s assembly,” Vincent said.

I think it’s wonderful that Sacred Hearts, an all-girls school is taking action to help stop human trafficking. It is definitely a major issue in our world and I’m happy to see that our school is helping to empower other girls in third-world countries that may not have the resources that we do. 🙂

I think that it it awesome that Sacred Hearts can help these girls. I don’t think that we really appreciate what we have here at school, so this can remind us that we are extremely fortunate to be able to have an education and wear uniforms.
