The Annual World Languages Forum was held on Jan. 14 and 15 at which, students heard a panel of alumnae and teachers shared their experiences in foreign languages.
Department Chair Yoko Harada said, “This year was the third annual World Languages Forum. The forum consisted of about 30 panelists.
“The world may be shrinking because of technology, but using another language can be a key for success,” said Harada.
The purpose of the World Languages Forum is to encourage students to continue studying foreign languages, realizing the benefits that they provide.
Sophomore Ye Eun Lee said, “I learned a lot from the language forum. After listening to what the panelists had to say, I realized that a foreign language can really benefit a person. Since I am fluent in Korean, I know the benefits that a foreign language can bring. I am able to speak to some of the foreign Korean students and help them when they need it.”
“After the forum, I was more determined to take another foreign language,” said Lee.
Students in grades 8 to 12 in language classes were present at the forums.
Freshman Courtney Mello said, “Since I am one of the many new students to this school, this was my first World Language Forum.
“I enjoyed listening to the stories that the teachers and alumnae told. After listening to the stories, I learned that I should not be embarrassed to make a mistake.
“I learned that the classroom is the best place to make a mistake. That way, my teacher can correct me and I would be less likely to make a mistake outside of class,” said Mello.
