As winter break approaches, so do midterm exams. In the next week or so, students and teachers will be preparing for exams.
Freshman Ashley Sumibcay said, “Since it is my first year here at Sacred Heartqs Academy, I expect exams to be more difficult than the ones I took at my previous school.
“I tend to study along as I work in class by doing my homework and reading my material. By continuing this process and reviewing flashcards and study guides, I expect to do well on my exams,” said Sumibcay.
Students who prepare in advance can do well on exams.
Sophomore Cirena Aiwohi said, “Attending Sacred Hearts Academy has given me a chance to develop my own style of studying. Though I haven’t started studying for exams, due to homework and a busy schedule, I have planned out my method of studying.
“When the time of exams approaches, I look for study guides, make flashcards and gather all my previous quizzes and tests. A week or so before the exams I spend my day studying and preparing myself.
“After receiving my results in the previous years, my grades reflect how well I have studied,” said Aiwohi.
Though seniors have already submitted college applications, it is still important to do well on the exams.
Senior Shanelle Sebastian said, “As a senior, I have completed my college applications. Though they are completed, my grades on the exams still matter because there is no guarantee to any college. Therefore, all grades and scores count until the end of my senior year.
“Being at the Academy for a while has given me an opportunity to study for the exam using different methods. Weeks before exams, I usually prepare flashcards and study previous quizzes and tests for hours a day.
” Unfortunately, I have not found an opportunity to prepare for the exams due to working on college applications. Now that I have completed my applications, I can start studying and preparing for the midterm exams,” said Sebastian.
Not only students prepare for exams, but so do teachers. Teachers create study guides, but students must use them.
Math teacher Angela Deitch said, “To prepare my students for their exam, I plan to spend the last three days of the cycle reviewing and going over any questions the students have. I will also provide a review sheet for them to work on their own.
“I would advise my students to work in a quiet place as they solve math problems so that they can adjust to an exam-type of environment. I also would tell my students to make sure they get a good rest and a good breakfast,” said Deitch.
