On Nov. 3 the Zonta club volunteered at the happiest 5k run on the planet, the Color Run which focuses less on speed and more on crazy color fun with friends and family. Color runners vary in all ages and athletic backgrounds. This run tours the country throughout the year promoting color diversity.
Counselor Amy Young who participated said, “The run symbolized diversity and coming together to work toward a goal and having fun.”
Zonta club adviser, Donna Ramos, said, “The Color Run allowed students to be a part of a community service opportunity filled with color.”
Zonta members helped with registration and handing out white t-shirts and headbands at the beginning of the run. Then they split up into various color groups, placed strategically at each kilometer where they threw colored powder on participants.
Zonta member, Angel Puesta, said, “I was placed in the orange group, so my job was to throw orange powder in the air when participants passed by.”
At the starting line participants are considered plain canvases and by the finish line they are considered human masterpieces.
Puesta said, “It was such an unforgettable experience. There were so many creative outfits and everyone was so happy to just express themselves.”
