VEX is the largest and fastest growing robotics program globally with over 3,500 teams from 20 countries playing in more than 250 tournaments worldwide. It is available to students in middle school, high school and university.
VEX encourages teamwork and leadership through building, designing and improving a robot that pertains to the year’s game.
This year’s game is Sack Attack. The game is played on a 12-foot by 12-foot field. The goal of the game is to throw as many sacks as possible into the three goals before the two-minute time period is over. The three goals are floor goals on the field floor, troph goals at 15 inches above the floor and high goals at 30 inches above the floor.
Hawaii’s VEX competition will be on Nov. 2 and 3 at Wet n Wild.
After teams complete their robots, they have a chance to form alliances with other teams during scrimmages to optimize their performance in the real competition.
Students in VEX learn how to design, build and program robots, and troubleshoot problems.
At the competition, students can win awards for Design, Building and Energy.
Academy Co-captain Dominique Dold said, “VEX helps us prepare for the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) season and helps us manage our time.”
Sophomore Jessica Manuel said, “VEX taught me about the use of tools, safety of robotics and helped me to prepare for the rest of the robotics season.”
