Sacred Hearts Academy’s Lancer Christian Communities (LCC) sponsor monthly gatherings to enrich students’ faith and to create fellowship. The communities originated at the same time as the Living In Faith Experience (L.I.F.E.) program about 20 years ago.
Sr. Katherine Francis Miller said, “The purpose for monthly LCC meetings is to give students an opportunity to gather in small groups to support and motivate one another throughout their spiritual journey.”
A regular LCC gathering consists of discussions on liturgical feasts for the month, personal testimonies and an activity. After each gathering, food and drink are shared by all.
Junior Nicole Corpuz said, “We all live busy lives, but we cannot forget our Lord. Sometimes I don’t have time to go to church every Sunday, so I like going to LCC because it’s spiritual, fun and a good place for fellowship.”
LCC is an opportunity for students to live their faith and encourages students to have positive attitudes, to develop ethics and to live life following Jesus’ example.
Freshman Nicole Roland said, “I enjoyed my first LCC because everyone there was so positive and open to everyone. Being able to share and practice my faith at LCC made me feel proud to be a Christian.”
Two L.I.F.E. members coordinate each monthly meeting while one theology teacher supervises.
The goal this year is to have smaller group meetings so that everyone can feel emotionally and spiritually connected to the topics of discussion. Every so often, small groups join together to celebrate big events.
Senior Amanda Cieslak, L.I.F.E. member, said, “People should go to LCC because it enriches your faith and it’s a great time to meet people outside your division who share the same faith.”
Students in grades nine through 12 are invited to these monthly meetings. The community emphasizes that students do not have to be Catholic or Christian to join the gatherings. LCC is held the last Thursday of every month during lunch in Room A306.
