The annual Living In Faith Experience (LIFE) mass and walk took place on Feb. 2 for students in grades 7-12.
During the school year the LIFE team works with Campus Ministry to organize retreats and masses, but its major event is the LIFE walk for the high school. This year’s moderaterators are Sr.Irene Barboza and counselor Lisa Vega.
Sr. Irene said, “The purpose of the LIFE team is faith leadership in our community.”
The LIFE mass had a mixture of upbeat songs, which got the students ready for the walk.
In previous years the LIFE walk destination was Kapiolani Park, but this year the walk went to Palolo District Park.
Senior Brigette Agcaoili said, “The reflection song that we danced to during mass was our theme song from our retreat in San Francisco this summer. The mass and walk are a way that we reflect on our experience as LIFErs.”
Vega said, “ The LIFE walk is a day dedicated to LIFE, a day that we can share our experiences with the entire school.”
Once the students arrived at the park, the activities began. Different game stations included tug of war, kickball, jump rope and volleyball.
Sophomore Cierra Ponimoi said, “There were so many activities that you could join, but the involvement between the different grades and teachers made it competitive and fun.”
After the games were over, the students walked back to school where they ate lunches and later danced in the gym.
LIFEr Jenna-Anne Patague said, “The LIFE walk is not just for fun. Its purpose is to raise funds for the next set of LIFEs, so that they can go to the retreat in California.”
Sr. Irene said, “All incoming seniors are invited to fill out an application, write an essay and have teacher reviews to be a part of next year’s LIFE team.”
