Sophomores celebrated their class week Jan. 9-13 with the theme, “YouTube,” with an emphasis on You. Activities included music and dance every day.
On “Music Monday” sophomores had Tropicana ice cream during recess. At lunch Kaena Kekoa’s family entertained the school with song and dance.
Sophomore Kara Takahashi said, “Music Monday’s lunch was the highlight of my week. I enjoyed dancing and the entire school’s involvement in our weeks festivities.”
On “Thank You Notes Tuesday” sophomores wrote notes on musical note cards to their Big Sisters for their friendships over the past two years. Seniors and sophomores also received red velvet cupcakes.
Sophomore Megan Wellman said, “I like ‘Thank You Notes Tuesday’ because it was one of the last moments I will get with my sister before she graduates.”
On Wednesday sophomores donated CD compilations to Shriners Hospital patients.
On “Twin Teacher Thursday” each homeroom had a hit song for which they created a 45- second dance. The twist was that the homeroom teacher had to be the star of the show, depicting the singer of that song.
The Sophomore Class also had practiced for a flash mob which was supposed to be a secret, but in the end many people found out. After flag ceremony, the sophomores danced to a mixed CD on Friday.
The class closed the week at Hee Hing Chop Suey at the Father-Daughter Luncheon on Sunday where there was good food, entertainment and memorable moments with their fathers.
Sophomore Class president, Angela Wong, said, “This Sophomore Week was a success, but it wasn’t easy. There was much planning which took a lot of time and effort, but I am really happy with how it turned out.”
Sophomore Class adviser, Carol Chong, said, “The hardest part of planning Sophomore Week was pleasing everyone, but it turned out better than I expected.”
