The Outreach, Unity and Renewal Club (OUR) is one of the Academy’s most active clubs that give students the opportunity to serve their communities.
Students volunteer their time to help those at Loliana Hale, a transitional housing shelter for families who have lost their jobs and homes.
“The OUR Club is a fantastic club that is centered on community outreach. By joining the OUR Club, students are given the chance to donate their time by helping others that may not be as fortunate as they,” said senior Paige Thomas. “This proves to be very rewarding because the student has the ability to positively impact the community.”
“The OUR club gives students the chance to be of service to others, especially young children. It allows them to see that there are real people who don’t have homes,” said adviser Matthew Juelsgaard.
Each year the OUR Club teams up with the Interact Club to host Easter, Halloween and Christmas parties for those at Loliana Hale.
“We recently had a Halloween party at Loliana Hale for the children. The club helped to provide food and drinks while assisting with face painting, tattoos and games,” said Juelsgaard.
“At this year’s Halloween party, I helped pass out candy to the children and I also assisted the children while they were playing ‘Pin the Wart on the Witch,’ said Thomas. “Seeing how grateful these women and children are for what we do, helps me to appreciate the blessings that I have been given in my life.”
