Counselers Randy Fong and Lisa Vega led a group of 18 students on a tour of the University of Southern California, the University of California at Los Angeles, Loyola Marymount University, Chapman University, the University of California at Irvine and Pepperdine.
Students gathered information about these colleges and college life to help them choose their future colleges.
“Touring different colleges helps students to compare and contrast colleges,” Fong said. The students learned about each schools’ academic programs and admissions process.
Junior Chloe Tyler said “ We had a glance at dormitory life and found out more about the college schedule.”
Students learned that the environment surrounding the school is as important as choosing the school itself.
“ We learned about the size of classes. In each university, such as USC, the classes were bigger compared to a smaller college like Chapman.” Tyler said.
Junior Taylor Kaneshiro said, “ I enjoyed the colleges where they had a variety of class sizes. You could take a small class or big to see which which one you like better.”
At three colleges, LMU, USC and Chapman, Academy alumnae visited the group.
Fong said, “ Seeing the alumnae was one of the highlights of the trip because I got to see my past students whom I haven’t seen in a long time.”
The group also went to Disneyland and Third Street Promenade.
Tyler said, “ Disneyland was one of my favorite parts of the trip.”
Fong said he is planning another trip in the summer to visit universities on the East Coast.
