As the new school year begins, Sacred Hearts Academy has gone through recent changes to the traditional uniform, mass attire and outerwear selections.
The uniform was changed to be more affordable for parents and simpler for students to wear. The old uniform was made up of a cuff and collar set, and the button-on dickey, the tie and the blouse, which were all separate pieces. Now the everyday uniform comes with the cuff and collar attached to the blouse. No need to worry about cuffs coming off and reattaching them, or collars unbuttoning themselves without the wearer realizing it.
The outerwear has changed as well. The windbreaker was dark blue with a stenciled logo. The cardigan had no logo. The attire for mass featured a white skirt and a navy blue tam.
Now in addition to the jacket and cardigan, a new alternative for outerwear is the pullover sweater which has the school emblem and a V-neck. One minor change to the mass attire is that tams are no longer worn. White skirts are still used for these days and for special occasions.
Aloha Island Uniforms, located in the Kaimuki Shopping Center, is the source for Sacred Hearts’ uniforms.
“I prefer the new socks to the old ones actually. The socks are shorter and the logos are a lot smaller. I like the old shirt better, though. It’s thinner than the new one, said sophomore Christina Pachecho.
Freshman Grace Mosier said, “At least with the new shirt, you don’t have to attach the cuffs and collar to it. It will save me a lot of time in the morning.”
