Excelling on and off the lanes
November 8, 2016
Last month, Sacred Hearts Academy senior Marissa Okamoto was named Lancer of the Month for her outstanding performance on the varsity bowling team.
Lancer of the Month athlete selections are based on the student’s exemplary sportsmanship, as well as academic and athletic dedication.
Okamoto serves as the bowling team captain and has received high praise from coaches, who say that she leads teammates on and off the lanes. She also brings positive energy to the team and upholds the values of the Academy at all times.

This is her third year on the school’s bowling team.
“I love my team and the support that we give to each other,” she said. “We are such a close-knit team, and they are some of the people that I will miss the most next year.”
Math teacher Deborah Kula applauds Okamoto’s academic ability. She, along with other teachers, say that Okamoto is a focused student. She is interested in fully understanding the concepts and not simply skimming the surface of concepts.
After graduating from the Academy, Okamoto plans to continue bowling in college as well as pursue a Master’s degree in education.
