Sixth grader, Alyse Glaser, is no newcomer to theater.

The young actress already has an impressive resume for such productions as “Alice in Wonderland,” “Willy Wonka,” “Wizard of Oz” and the “Little Mermaid” for the performing Arts Center of Kapolei; “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” “Miracle Worker” and “The Parish” with The Actors Group; “Mulan” and “Seussical” with SHA; and “Les Miserables” at Paliku Theater.

Glaser’s most recent role is Scout Finch, in the Diamond Head Theatre adaptation of the classic, “To Kill a Mockingbird,” playing throughout February.

“To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee focuses on 6- year old Scout Finch, in 1930s Maycomb, Alabama. It is a coming-of-age story with her father, Atticus, defending a black man accused of raping a white woman.

“For me, the best part of theater is in the laughter or tears we get during performances. It means we did our job well, and the story’s message has become clear. If we get reactions such as those, I am thrilled because I know I did what I was supposed to do. I want the audience to walk away from the theater feeling as if something has changed inside them,” said Glaser.

Glaser follows in the footsteps of her mother, Desiree, and sister, Alana.

“Performing is something I enjoy thoroughly now, so I am definitely going to do in the future. I want to be a director or actress in my free time as part of my career. I think I first decided to try out this new world when I heard of all the fun my mother had in acting when she was a child. One of my first auditions was for the production of ‘Annie’ at Mamiya, in which my sister, Alana, had the title role.

“Alana is always very inspiring to me because of her various abilities. If I need help, she is always there to help me. The same thing applies to my mother. I know they are happy to advise me with acting, singing, dancing and school work,” said Glaser.
