This illustration shows the national trend of more high schoolers opting to take a gap year before college. This educational break can be spent traveling, doing mission work or completing apprenticeships. Experts, like research analyst Julia Rodgers, say that gap years provide a much-needed mental break that motivates students to complete their degree in four years; therefore, helping students to save money on tuition costs. In the spring of 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic halted mostly all in-person activities. Young athletes were forced off the fields and the courts—and into a downward trend of youth who decided they wouldnt go back. This illustration depicts the issue.
