In September, Sacred Hearts Academy hosted its annual Club Fair, giving students a chance to explore a variety of activities and organizations.
The fair, which featured 25 clubs, took place across campus, with some clubs set up inside classrooms and others stationed outdoors. Students could browse tables, talk to club leaders and learn more about ways to get involved in the Lancer community.
Upper School Principal Dr. Elizabeth Loehr organized the event. She said scheduling was difficult this year.
“It was really hard to schedule the Club Fair,” Loehr said. “We were setting up the (“Little Mermaid, Jr.”) at the same time we were trying to organize all the tables and locations for each club.”
When asked why she believes the event is important, Loehr said, “I think they’re important because we definitely want girls to find what they really like and enjoy.”
Among the many groups represented, the most popular this year was the BIONIC Team (Believe It Or Not I Care), which focuses on kindness and connection within the school community. This year, the BIONIC Club hosted several student-friendly events, including a friendship bracelet making activity and a Friendsgiving for Thanksgiving.
BIONIC Team member junior Karys Shimizu said, “I was inspired (to join) because I love giving back to others and making an impact on other people’s lives.”
The Comedy Club was among the many new clubs introduced this year. Its goal is to help students improve their stand-up comedy skills by thinking of jokes on the spot, while also building their social skills.
“The club will make me step out of my comfort zone a lot, and it will make me uncomfortable which is a good thing,” said junior Clay Nguyen, who helped create the club.
