Have you ever wondered how you can be more involved in the Lancer community? At Sacred Hearts Academy, there are many opportunities — whether you’re interested in sports, the arts, or joining (or even starting) a club.
We interviewed two students who are well-known in the community for their dedication and involvement. We reached out to seniors Melina Cudiamat and Elora Speltz and asked them what it’s like to be a Lancer. Here’s what they had to say.
Getting involved through sports

Cudiamat dedicates much of her time to being a student-athlete. During her years at the Academy, she has participated in basketball, volleyball, and softball.
“Even though it is hard work and sometimes stressful, it can be exciting and fun to meet new people, bond, and make connections with those who share the same interests as you,” Melina said.
Beyond these three sports, the Academy offers a wide range of athletic programs throughout the year that encourage students to get involved and pursue their interests.
But involvement doesn’t stop with sports. There’s also a wide variety of clubs that allow students to explore what they’re passionate about or push themselves outside of their comfort zones to try something new.
Joining and leading clubs

The Academy recently hosted a school wide blood drive. Speltz helped advocate for the cause and inspired students to “save three lives by donating once.”
Speltz is part of the bowling, sailing, and surfing teams, as well as the Lifesaver and Sisters Helping Sisters clubs.
When asked if she would recommend joining, she said, “Absolutely. I think both are very beneficial to be a part of. I may be slightly biased as I am a co-leader of them, but I think that in both, you can learn a lot. With Lifesavers, we go around and educate others on blood donations and other things surrounding information on both blood and blood donations.”
So from sports to clubs, there are countless opportunities to support the community, get to know fellow Lancers, and take part in causes that matter — all while exploring new interests along the way.
