After years of hard work, seniors Starlen Wong and Angelina Lind are reaching the homestretch of their high school track careers.
Wong has been a triathlete student at Sacred Hearts Academy, participating in track, cross country and paddling since the seventh grade. Wong runs in a variety of events like the 100-meter, 100-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles, 200-meter, 4x14x4 and the 4×8.
After running track for several years, Wong says, “Track pushes my mental limit because it’s not something that everyone enjoys and being able to breathe in the fresh air while running is calming.”
Lind has been a part of the track team at the Academy since the sixth grade and competes in the 200 meter, 300-meter hurdles, 4×100, 4×400 and long jump. She also does sprint events. This past track season, Lind placed third at the Interscholastic League of Honolulu Championships, qualifying for the state championships. She placed third.
When asked what advice they would give underclassmen running track, Wong said, “Keep on pushing and take care of your body. Always stay determined because your hard work will pay off, and you’ll achieve your goals.”
“I would tell underclassmen to come to practice and don’t be afraid to make friends. People at track meets aren’t just competition, they are people you will see for the rest of your track career,” Lind said.
