As the seniors in Sacred Hearts Academy’s dance program prepare for their final performance, a mix of emotions fill the air. They have spent countless hours perfecting their routines, building strong bonds between classmates and creating unforgettable memories, and as they get ready to take the stage one last time at the end of the month, the reality of leaving behind the Lancer Dancer community starts to set in. The anticipation of the final performance is both exciting and bittersweet.
Senior Cocomi Mehring has been a part of the dance program for six years. She says, “Not only am I nervous because I want to put my best foot forward (literally) for the show that will close my high school dance career, but I am also extremely sad knowing this will be my last year with my fellow senior Lancer Dancers (and) with Ms. Pereira.”

Senior Alyssa Giang has been dancing in the Academy’s dance program for five years. She says, “I feel very sad knowing that it will be my last time dancing with my peers. I’ve been dancing with a lot of them for years now, so we’ve seen each other grow and have grown close.”

Despite the sadness, the seniors are determined to make their final show unforgettable. They want to honor the legacy of the Lancer Dancers and leave a lasting impact on the audience.
As the seniors reflect on the lasting impact, its crucial to consider the advice they can pass onto the next generation of Lancer Dancers to help them end another show of strength.
“One must keep persisting and discipline themself to be the Lancer Dancer they choose to be,” Mehring said. “Never lose the spark in your artistry and the uniqueness in your movement because every dancer is one-of-a-kind.”

“I would tell them that although dance can be challenging at times, never give up,” Giang said. “The challenges are how you learn, grow and become stronger. It will take time, but great things take time, and it will be worth it in the end.”
This last performance is not just an end but a celebration of everything they’ve achieved together. As the curtain falls on April 25th at Hawaii Theater it will be the last dance of 2025.
