Earlier this year, the Sacred Hearts Academy varsity volleyball team competed in the 20th Annual Bucs Bash tournament in San Diego, showcasing their skill and determination. The all-girls team finished with a 6-1 record and secured second place in the highly competitive Gold Bracket.
Focused, determined, and ready to play their best, the Sacred Hearts Academy volleyball team gathers for one last huddle before the game against team Skyline from California. Senior captain Jetaime Paio looks at her teammates and says, “Just play our game; we got this.”Eyes on the ball, knees bent and ready to receive the serve, junior Taylor Kaahanui locks in. She focuses every ounce of energy on making the perfect pass. Kaahanui has been playing volleyball since she was 10 years old and also plays for an outside club, Kaulukoa.The Lancers prepare to transition into offense against the Buccaneer team from San Diego . They pass the ball seamlessly as the setter positions for the perfect set. The hitters move into action, ready to deliver a powerful kill.After securing the rally, the Lancers rush into a huddle. Their faces are lifted with a mix of relief and excitement, as they exchange quick words of encouragement and get ready to push even harder for the next point. After that, the Lancers kept the momentum going, playing even harder and smarter, and we ended up winning with a strong finish that sealed the win for us.At the service line, the senior captain Paio steadies herself as she serves the ball with grace and precision. She takes control of the game, lifting her team and pushing them forward.In the heat of the set, assistant coach Kylie Alos (left) gives the Lancers a clear strategy to guide the next plays. Dylen is a first-year Journalism student and a sophomore at the Academy. This year, she hopes to expand her knowledge in writing, as well as deepen her understanding of storytelling. She enjoys dancing hula and spending time with friends at the beach. A fun fact about her is that she has been attending the Academy since preschool.
