Sacred Hearts Academy’s Lancer Dancers are thrilled to present its annual performance of “The Nutcracker,” on Dec. 15 at 6:30 p.m. “The Nutcracker” is a timeless holiday classic that will showcase the incredible talent and dedication of our students.
This year, the dancers have poured their hearts into perfecting their choreography, demonstrating both their technical aspects while bringing in their own artistry into their roles. Senior Cocomi Mehring has six years of experience in the dance program. This is a bittersweet moment, she said, because this is her final show. Mehring will lead as Dewdrop and Mouse Queen.
“It’s exciting to know it’s the last one because I get to pour my heart and soul into this one last Christmas performance–until the spring concert, of course,” Mehring said.
Freshman Riona Nakase has 10 years of dancing experience, and she is cast as Sugar Plum Fairy, the principal lead.
“I have always been inspired by the beauty and grace that dance offers, as it combines the factors of physical movement with storytelling,” she said. “I chose to participate in dance and not visual arts because I love that dance provides me with an outlet for creativity and self-expression.”
Each student has worked tirelessly to master the intricate steps and movements to the beloved roles of Clara, Sugar Plum Fairy, Dewdrop and other enchanting characters. Throughout this performance, students will highlight their technical abilities, while also conveying the magic of “The Nutcracker.”
“It brings our entire program together,” teacher Jessica Pereira said. “While it is very, very challenging…it is really beautiful to see everyone collaborate on one big show. It’s inspiring to see all my students dance together and inspire each other.”
As the curtain rises on Sunday, the audience will be transported to a world of wonder and enchantment, while witnessing the months of hard work and dedication. There will also be a new layer added to every show, according to Pereira. To purchase tickets, visit this link.
