New families ‘catch ‘em all’ with Pokemon-themed social
Families attending this year’s Pokemon Go-themed New Parent Social were on a mission to “catch ‘em all,” as the popular Nintendo game’s slogan goes. And while they didn’t actually catch Pokemon characters, what they did catch was much more valuable: new friendships and information about Sacred Hearts Academy.
The annual event is meant to give “new parents the opportunity to meet other new parents from their daughter’s grade, along with meeting some of the school’s administrators, teachers and counselors,” said Director of Special Events Rodney Chang.
“Pokemon Go was just getting popular, when the Parent Board came up with the idea as the theme of the event,” he said, referring to the success of the virtual reality game played on electronic devices.
The theme also turned out to be a success among those who attended, as they enjoyed Pokemon-themed party games, activities and a photobooth.
Games weren’t the only source of excitement at this annual event; the cheerleaders also entertained the crowd with their new routines and cheers.
According to Chang, “Having our cheerleaders sharing their enthusiasm and spirit with our parents” was the best part of the day.
Later in the day, families were able to hear about the different events happening throughout the year and had a chance to ask questions of their own. The most helpful piece of advice? Always check Edline, the school’s internal website used as a hub of important information and updates for families.
