The Academy’s varsity bowling team will be competing in the state championships on the Big Island once again.

Athletic director Ryan Hogue said, “The team will be absent from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1, participating in the state bowling championships in Kona.”

On Oct. 15, the bowlers completed their season and became the ILH champs for the second year in a row. They also won the title in their 2013-14 season.

Senior Caitlin Cunningham, the captain of the team, is elated to be heading to Kona with her teammates.

Cunningham said, “I am extremely excited for the state tournament in Kona. My team and I have worked so hard to get to where we are and we don’t regret one bit of it. We all have dedicated so much time and effort to this sport.”

Cunningham explains how grateful she is be able to go to the championship game with her teammates.

“I never really understood what a team was until I was on the Lancer bowling team. When you’re on this team, you are a part of a family, “ said Cunningham. “I know our team will do well at the state tournament and I hope our fans at home will be cheering us on!

Senior Hailey Ganiron’s 174 is the highest team average.

The varsity team consists of seniors Cunningham, Ganiron, Kaua Arelliano, Desiree Batangan, Kehau Ho, Leeyannah Santos, Jamie Toler and junior Cameron Pires.
