The Saint Louis Crusader varsity football team plays Kamehameha Warriors, and they take the win, 37-7. Even though this team had a lot of ups and downs throughout the game, they still managed to stick together and play through the game. All photos by Joy Gora-Aina.
Senior, wide receiver and defensive back Titan Lacaden, #22. In this play he is making a touchdown for the Crusaders. He said “To have something you never had, you have to do something you’ve never done. -Denzel Washington” is what inspires him to continue playing football.Junior and kicker Makani Markle-Kane, #99, kicks the ball after Saint Louis made a touchdown. Markle-Kane said that something that inspires him to continue playing football is Proverbs 19:8 “The one who gets wisdom loves life; the one who cherishes understanding will soon prosper.”Saint Louis junior and running back Jonah Gora-Aina, #29, and junior defensive back Lamese Gora, #3, get ready for the kick off after they made a touchdown. They review the play one more time. Gora said, “The best ability is availability. Making yourself available to the team, coaches and yourself academically, mentally and physically is one of the most important factors when coming to any sport.” What inspires him to continue to play football is the biblical scripture, “Work without faith is dead,”John 4:4.Junior quarterback Nainoa Lopes, #12, getting ready to throw the ball. He said, “Try not to be a man of success but rather become a man of value” is what inspires Lopes to continue playing football.Sacred Hearts Academy’s varsity cheerleaders cheer on the Crusaders and help pump up the fans. The team includes students in grades 9 to 12. In this photo in the middle with the pomp pomp’s is junior Hayden Cherie. She said “Cheering for saint louis is very fun because we get to see the way saint louis students act and we also get to connect with them during things like pep rallies and hyping students and fans at games.”
Joy is a first-year Journalism student and is a sophomore at the Academy. This year she hopes to strengthen her skills in writing and learn about the process that goes into making and writing an article. Joy enjoys going to the beach and spending time with friends in her free time. A fun fact about Joy is that she loves to play sports and be outside.
