‘I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love’
Known for his stage name “The Ready Set,” singer Jordan Witzigreuter gives fans a taste of his style in his first self-produced album “I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love.” Released on April 8, the album enchants fans with its catchy, quirky beats and unique sound.
“I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love” features 12 songs that highlight the trials and tribulations one goes through while experiencing love and life. From feeling inadequate or tied down in a relationship to facing obstacles with determination, Witzigreuter passionately belts out his message to the rhythm of his addictive tunes. Additionally, each song is paired with its own zany music video — a visual treat for fans.
In an interview with Alternative Press, Witzigreuter explains that self-producing his own album better showcases his talent and personality as a performer.
“That’s what I want to focus more on anyway, being able to have my distinct, super-unique kind of thing,” Witzigreuter said. “It sounds a lot more cohesive, I think, than stuff I’ve done in the past.”
The first track, “Disappearing Act,” focuses on the urge to run away from situations or confrontations, especially during times of failure or insecurity. With its ironically bubbly and happy instrumental, listeners will come to appreciate the serendipitous and wry moments one will have in life.
“Being Afraid,” the second song, discusses risks and moving to the beat of one’s own drum despite opposition from others.
The third and fourth songs “Good Enough” and “Concrete” are on opposite sides of the “Love Spectrum.” In “Good Enough,” Witzigreuter sings about wanting to prove that he is worthy of his lover’s affections, while in “Concrete,” he highlights the feeling of being held back by his significant other’s selfishness. Hearing the songs back-to-back is symbolic of how love can quickly turn sour or sorrowful.
The title track “I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love” is incredibly addictive with its strong and funky dance beats. Again, it focuses on love and how a person can feel incomplete without his or her significant other’s endearment.
The sixth track titled “Run” depicts a man reaching out to his lover, who is afraid of living her life; he wants to reassure her that she’ll never be alone with him by her side. It’s a sweet, romantic song and will be sure to woo the hearts of all who listen to it.
Similar to “Run,” the seventh song “Should We Go Downtown?” focuses on a man who wants to show his crush that she is worthy of a sincere, sensual romance.
In the next song “Swim,” Witzigreuter sings about the feelings of obligation one feels in a relationship; the song is meant to convey emotions of dedication to a lover despite his or her shortcomings, as well as being fully encompassed by love for the other person.
The gears change from electropop to a fusion of reggae and synthpop in the ninth song “No Love.” This time, Witzigreuter is done with romance as he sings with a snazzy attitude about how he has “no (more) love” for his significant other.
The tenth and eleventh songs “First” and “Fire in the Sky” again focuses on love. “First” depicts a man confronting a woman about her unrequited love for him. “Fire in the Sky” is another romantic song; with an incredulous heart, Witzigreuter sings about how he feels undeserving toward his lover and is lucky that she chooses to be with him. It’s a notable song on the album due to the raw emotion that can be heard in his voice as he professes his feelings.
To wrap up the album, the song “See You” is a fan favorite. Unlike its upbeat counterparts, “See You” is a ballad that focuses on death. With Witzigreuter’s powerful words and gentle piano playing throughout, fans will be moved to tears. It is a profound track and is most definitely one of the best songs on the album despite its subject matter.
“I Will Be Nothing Without Your Love” is a self-produced masterpiece by “The Ready Set.” Every song has its own unique message and funky tune paired with its own music video. Everyone can find their own song to blast in the car or jam out to with their friends. The album can be enjoyed by music lovers of all ages; however, some songs contain curse words.
“I Will be Nothing Without Your Love” is available for purchase on iTunes and at Target and is streaming on YouTube.
