FOODIE FRIDAY: Koa Cafe
Those craving a classic pancake breakfast know to go to Koa Pancake House, which has been a Kaimuki favorite for years. Recently, however, the eatery opened a sister location, which puts a modern twist on traditional diner-style foods one might find at the pancake house.
Koa Cafe, which opened in September, brings new meaning to dishes like, pancakes and waffles. Instead of buttermilk pancakes, customers are drooling over the cafe’s Butter Mochi Pancakes. The Korean Fried Chicken (KFC) Waffles are also a best-seller at this Moiliili eatery.
The butter mochi pancakes have a fluffy mochi consistency, topped with fresh fruits and candied nuts, and doused with a creamy almond-flavored syrup. The KFC Waffles consist of a Belgian waffle, topped with gochujang fried chicken and a spicy sauce.
The great food also comes with great service. Waitresses take time to share with customers their personal favorites, which can be particularly helpful to customers, since there are so many choices on the menu.
Koa Cafe is located on 2700 King St. It is open daily from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information and to view the menu, visit koacafe.com.
