Band brings Disney magic to campus
Sacred Hearts Academy will soon be filled with magical songs from classical Disney movies, as band students host a Disney-themed dinner concert this weekend.
This is the second year the band will host a dinner concert. Last year’s theme was “The Wizard of Oz.”
When asked about the upcoming concert, Band Director Keith Higaki said he is expecting everyone to have fun with the variety of activities available at the event, such as a silent auction and a photo booth.
The concert will be split into three parts and include the intermediate band, a combined band with all concert and wind ensemble students and the wind ensemble. “Colors of the Wind,” “Fantasia 2000” and “Pirates of the Caribbean” are a few familiar songs that will be performed.
“I like (playing) ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ because it’s fun, and the band sounds really pretty,” senior Adrianna Choi said. “The music gives you feeling and is almost indescribable.”
This year’s dinner menu includes roasted vegetables, signature rice, slow roasted pork, orzo pasta and other cuisine, crafted by chef David Passanisi from local cafe EAT Honolulu.
“I think it’s a great way to raise funds for the band,” Higaki said. “It’s also a great way to showcase the band early in the school year.”
Following the dinner concert, the band will begin preparing for its winter concert, as well as parades and various performances on campus and in the community.
