Taking a break from their darker concepts, Korean boy band “VIXX” begins the year with a cute, bubbly image in their new ‘special single’ album “Boys’ Record.” Released on Feb. 24, the new album has won 1st place on multiple Korean music shows.

“Boys Record” features three songs: the title track “Love Equation,” and two songs composed by members Leo and Ravi called “In the Cold Night” and “Memory.” The album showcases the group’s ability to perform different music styles and explores ‘90s’ K-POP as well as the genres of ballad and rap.

“Love Equation” is a remake of a 1990s K-POP song titled  “Farewell Equation,” which was originally released by R.ef, a Korean dance group, in 1995. The song is about how goodbyes, especially break-ups, can conjure up negative emotions but should not always end in tears. With its happy melody, listeners will be entranced with the ironic light-heartedness of the track and soon find themselves dancing along.

Focusing on the emotions that come with letting go of a lost love, the third track “Memory” has received a lot of love from fans. Ravi, the rapper of the group, composed the song, which has a dramatic beat that will make anyone’s heart race. Due to its rising popularity, Ravi and the youngest member of VIXX, Hyuk, performed “Memory” for a special live stage.

Listeners will find “Boys’ Record” refreshing and full of fun. The album shines light on old-school and contemporary Korean pop. “Boys’ Record” is available for purchase on iTunes and is streaming on YouTube, Korean search engine Naver and SoundCloud.
