Hordes of student volunteers as well as student and faculty participants flocked to Aloha Tower for the 31st Great Aloha Run (GAR), sponsored by Kaiser Permanente.

Members from Academy service clubs, Club Med, Leo club and Interact club provided volunteer manpower during the race.

Toni Normand, director of Student Activities, said, “We had a good turnout of  18 volunteers from grades 9 and 10 serving as medical spotters. We also had Leo club members helping to distribute t-shirts. In addition, our sign-ups for the sponsored slots to run were all filled, and we had lots of faculty and staff run as well. Overall, the Academy had  strong support for the Great Aloha Run.”

The eight-mile course raises funds which benefit the community in the form of funds, wellness opportunities and support for local organizations.

Sophomore Katherine Hennion, a runner in the race, said, “I like running [the Great Aloha Run] because it motivates me to actually run and I like to do it with my friends and it’s a good way to get outside.”
