The winter sport season saw multiple success stories for Lancer athletics. Twelve student athletes and a coach were named ILH all-stars from a wide range of sports.

Junior Baelle Gay competed in the wrestling state championships, making the second team.

Gay said, “This is my first year making it to states and being named an ILH All-star. I feel very accomplished and proud that all my hard work paid off.”

While the canoe paddling and soccer teams just missed qualifying for state championships, both had athletes named as winter all-stars.

Senior Greer Smith was named to the first team for paddling.

Smith said, “Our goal this season was to get to states, so we worked really hard during practice so that we could do our best in our regattas.”

Senior Bo Samson was named to the first team for soccer while classmates Noelle Yee and Sage Parker-Lee had second team honors. Senior Lauren Arakawa and freshman Alex Yawata made honorable mention.

Yawata said, “The team bonded really well together, which helped us to play off each other well. We worked really hard at practice which, in turn, helped us during a game.”

Senior Sara Tashima was named ILH champion for precision air-riflery and made second team for the second year in a row.

Senior Celina Pagan made the second team for basketball while seniors Erica Pagan, Tiare Libarios-Moses and sophomore Zoe-Ann Yamamoto made honorable mention.

Libarios-Moses said, “Although we did not always win, we worked hard as a team and were always pleased with the effort that we all put in for each other.”

Paddling coach, Elizabeth Loo, was named ILH Coach of the Year.

Loo said, “I became the head coach in 2000, so I’ve coached through a lot of seasons. Every year the team works differently, but this year the paddlers bonded so well together. The girls were willing to work hard in the classroom, at practice and in a race. I am very grateful and proud for my staff and girls who worked very hard for this successful season.”
