Lancers advance to states after invitational meet

Chen jumps 15 feet and four inches, placing third in the long jump event.

A few of Sacred Hearts Academy’s track and field athletes participated in the Ruby Tuesday’s Hawaii Invitational Meet at Punahou School this weekend.

A 4×4 relay team, consisting of Academy sophomores Sade Mizusawa and Tiana-lynn Manabat, along with juniors Rebekah Auld and Kiley Pazcoguin, placed fifth in the event. They finished with a time of 4:27.29, which automatically puts the team in the top 32 and qualifies them to participate in the upcoming state tournament.

“I am glad I was able to contribute to my team,” Auld said. “I (felt that I) ran my best personal time for a 400-meter dash.”

Junior Jocelyn Chen qualified for the long jump event in this meet. Chen jumped a distance of 15 feet and 4 inches, placing third overall in the event.

Only a certain number of competitors were invited to compete in this event, which was a combination of other leagues, including the Interscholastic League of Hawaii (ILH) and Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA).
The selection of competitors for this meet included the top 24 entries in the hurdle and 800-meter dash races; top 32 entries in the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes; top 16 entries for 1500 and 3000-meter; and top 16 entries for all field events and relays.
