October marked the end of the season for fall sports. Students in several sports earned berths at division and state championships.

Seniors Angelique Mara and Aimee Pak and sophomore Dorothy Sanidad qualified for the Air Riflery State Championships on Oct. 27 at Kamehameha Schools on Maui. Of 60 shooters, Mara placed 17th, Pak 18th and Sanidad 5th.

Junior Kaycee Selga shot her way to success in the ILH air riflery championships on the JV level, ranking 7th overall.

In bowling, senior Cameron Pires and sophomore Catherine Palmer qualified for the state championships on Oct. 29 and 30 at Kauai Bowl. Both placed in the top 30 of 100 bowlers. Senior Rebekah Rapoza made the trip as an alternate. Palmer and sophomore Alexiz Hicks first competed for the ILH doubles title on Oct. 23.

Senior Phoebe Kirk competed in her final year in cross country at the state championships on Maui.

Kirk said, “It was a great experience to be able to make it to states for four years in a row and be able to compete in the championships.”

For seniors, it was a bittersweet time competing on an Academy team.

Pires said, “I have bowled for the Academy since my freshman year. It has been an honor to compete in the state championships. I am sad that the season ended, but I am happy that I have been mentored by my coaches and created many friendships.”
