Academy Leos were busy helping the Young Athletes Program (YAP) and beautification events at Kalani High School.

YAP is a bi-monthly event sponsored by Special Olympics Hawaii. The program aims to provide activities for children with disabilities. This event was held at Kaiser High School.

“They were ‘buddies’ with the children who have mental or physical disabilities and brought them around stations that helped them focus on improving basic motor skills,” said Leo club president, Victoria Lee.

Leo members also helped Kalani High School by cleaning the campus and decorating trash cans. Nine Leos contributed three hours each to this event.

The Kamehameha Lions club, sponsors of the school’s Leo club, also volunteered at these events.

“Special thanks to our Kamehameha Lions and Mrs. Mary Gomes, mother of Angelina Gomes, for chaperoning these great events,” said club adviser Whitney Miyahira.
