The Academy hosted its annual Scholarship Fund Gala at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel on Oct. 19.

Guests were entertained by the Academy band and choir throughout the evening.

The gala featured a raffle, a silent auction and a live auction with the assistance of professional auctioneer, Joe Teipel.

Six Academy alumnae were honored, introduced by current students. Each received a Distinguished Alumna award for the success they accomplished after leaving the Academy and  in carrying out lessons they learned while at the school.

Director of Development, Andrea Hamilton, headed the gala committee and felt that it was an enormous success.

Hamilton said, “Overall, I think it went well. We were grateful to have so many hands working towards a successful goal.”

Over 125 students helped with the gala. Students served as greeters, bidding concierges, raffle ticket sellers and silent auction hostesses.

Freshman Shannon Smith, a bidding concierge and a band performer, said, “I thought the gala went well. I was able to experience both the behind-the-scenes work of the gala and the actual gala. I enjoyed being able to represent the Academy band and show the alumnae how our school has evolved.”

Junior Nikaela Busekrus, a student interviewer for one of six honorees, said, “Meeting Mrs. Ng and seeing her cheerful, humble, and friendly personality definitely inspired me to be more like her and to serve others without expecting anything in return. She was very welcoming and even though we only met a few times, she made me feel like a good friend.”

The funds raised at the gala will go directly towards funding financial aid scholarships.
