Student Council wants students to ‘remember’ the year

Student Council wants students to remember the year

The Student Council has been busy preparing for the new school year.

Each month of the school year will have a theme such as “Remember, we are Ohana” in August and “Remember School Spirit” in September.

“The theme for this school year is ‘Remember’ because we want students to remember their values, aspirations, origins and what led them to where they are today throughout the school year,” said Student Council Vice-president Xylia Lydgate.

“We also have planned new and exciting activities to show our school pride and spirit,” said Lydgate.

During Spirit Week, students can look forward to new activities.

“Instead of having Spirit Week, we are having spirit days. We have four spirit days and three pep rallies. We are trying to propose more dress down days like Slipper Day and maybe a talent show. We hope these proposals will be passed by administration,” said Student Council President Jiaxin Lin.

Finance representative Megan Stevenson and Vice-president Xylia Lydgate prepare scripts fot the "welcome back to school" assembly.

“Hopefully, students will not just take what they’re given and then complain about their lack of privileges but really appreciate all of the hard work and time put into arranging special events and activities prepared for them,” said Lydgate.

Each member of the student council hopes to gain something through her experiences.

“As a member of the student council, I hope to gain a better awareness of the way administration and the school system works. I will definitely have a greater appreciation for what previous student councils have done for our school and for the hard work that the administration does to organize certain school functions,” said Lydgate.

“I want to shape my leadership through student council. Writing proposals, planning events and facilitating meetings are all part of it. Our council has a variety of personalities, and I love that because through student council, I learn how to work with different people. I also found precious friendships within our council and adviser,” said Lin.
